Local 1747 Membership Update – July 3, 2025
Honoring Brother Minneman
As you know, Brother Brandon Minneman passed from occupational cancer, and his memorial is set for Friday, July 18. I’m asking each of you if you can be there, please make it a priority to show up.
For many, this may be your first time attending a line of duty death memorial. It’s a powerful experience. It’s about standing with Brandon’s family, honoring his service, and showing what it truly means to be part of this job and this union. Let’s turn out strong and support one another.
Following the ceremony a reception will be held at Riverbend Bar and Grill (formerly Half Lion) at the Riverbend Golf Course. The gathering will take place in the covered outdoor pavilion from 5:00 p.m. to approximately 9:00 p.m. Light food and beer will be provided, and we’re planning to have a performance from the Pipes and Drums.
Please RSVP below with the total number attending with you and respond promptly so we can plan accordingly. If you have any questions, please contact Director Cavanagh.

Burn Camp Counselors
The Washington State Council of Firefighters Burn Foundation needs male counselors for Camp Eyabsut in Black Diamond July 20–25. If you are interested, please see the post by VP Booth on the message board. Shift coverage will be coordinated. Anyone interested must attend the entire week.
Grievance Filed - Retroactive Pay
We have formally filed a grievance under Article 13 of the 2025 2027 FF/Capt. CBA due to the employer’s failure to fully issue retroactive pay owed to all affected employees. This grievance explicitly demands payment for members who have retired or separated since January 1, 2025 and who have yet to receive their retroactive compensation.
While the employer has begun addressing some pay errors for active employees, Local 1747 is committed to ensuring every eligible member, whether active, retired, or separated, receives full retroactive pay. We expect a timely response within 30 days and will keep all members updated as this process moves forward.
Active Member Retroactive Pay
President Rojecki and Vice President Mathey recently met with Finance and HR to address retro payment issues for active members. Because all retro payments require manual adjustments, some mistakes have occurred, but corrections are in progress. Members can expect individual confirmation of their retroactive payments soon. All FF/Capt adjustments should be completed by July 25, with BC/DC payments reflected on the August 8 payroll.
MDA Boot Drive - Save the dates
We’re gearing up for our annual MDA boot drive, an important IAFF tradition that raises funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year the boot drives will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at three locations: August 9 in Tukwila, August 23 in Maple Valley, and August 30 in Kent. We need your help because the number of members who participate directly impacts how much we raise. Any questions can be referred to Director Paglia and additional details will be shared soon.
SW/RN Bargaining Unit Negotiations
Once the negotiations team is in place, discussions will begin to develop the bargaining unit’s priorities and to gather comparable and financial data. Outstanding issues such as Class A or formal uniform attire, bidding for assignments, shift schedules, and other topics will also be addressed during this process. After priorities are finalized, a formal request to bargain the CBA will be sent to the Employer.
